What problems do wildlife cause?

Most of the calls we get are because homeowners hear animals scurrying around inside the attic or walls. Most of the damage inside a houes or attic is unseen. Rodents like squirrels, mice, and rats often chew on electrical wires. Wildlife such as raccoons, bats, birds, opossums, and rats spread several diseases that humans can and do catch, such as Histoplasmosis, Salmonella, Leptospirosis and more. Many critters leave droppings and urine in an attic or cause mold or odor problems. We also handle animals outside the house. It could be a critter that has dug a large hole next to your house, or a raccoon in your garbage cans, an opossum that is stealing pet food, or a skunk living under your deck, causing an odor problem. Some animals destroy your garden or landscaping. Or perhaps you are simply scared of snakes. Whatever the problem is, our wildlife experts can remove the source of the problem, and prevent it from happening again. We are not a Greenville extermination company, nor pest control. How To Get Rid Of Flying Squirrels

In the wild there is no doubt that flying squirrels are one of the strangest and most majestic creatures to see in flight. The unique membrane that stretches between their limbs allows them to glide from one tree to another and their tail is key in controlling their flight path and landing. However, when the flying squirrels come into contact with humans and move into homes and properties then there will often be problems that will result from this.

Special Requirements For Dealing With Flying Squirrels

One of the most important things to note when dealing with flying squirrels is that there will often be many more of them than with traditional gray squirrels. Flying squirrels are animals that will tend to live in small colonies, and it is unlikely that there will be one animal living alone. They will usually create or find a way in at roof level, and will often only require a small gap in order to get into the roof. In many cases these flying squirrels will have created a number of small entrances rather than using just one.

Because they tend to live in much larger numbers it can often be quite problematic to try and trap all of the animals that are actually living in the roof space. This is why many Greenville rodent extermination professionals will take an alternative approach to dealing with flying squirrels. Because they will often create many entrances into the roof cavity, it is important for Greenville squirrel removal to find all of them and to repair all but one or two with metal wire that cannot be chewed through. Once this is in place, a one way exit can be installed which will allow the flying squirrels to get out, but not to come back in again.

Trapping Flying Squirrels

For roof cavities that have a smaller number of flying squirrels that you want to relocate, it is much better to have a repeater trap which will capture a number of them in one cage. This is because it would require a lot of different one-animal traps in order to catch even a small colony of these squirrels.

Once they have been trapped it is wise to take them a reasonable distance away from your home, otherwise they will simply come straight back into the property. After all the squirrels are removed, it is time to secure the roof cavity so that the same problem won’t happen again. This will include blocking any exits that they have created, and to do this with steel wire so that the animals won’t be able to get in if they do come back.

Cleaning The Mess After Removing Flying Squirrels

The amount of damage and mess that a small number of flying squirrels can create in a roof space is quite significant, so it may need some work by Greenville squirrel control to clean it and to repair the damage. The first priority will be to remove any droppings or waste, and with a large number of squirrels this will often be ground in to the insulation material. Any such insulation should be removed and the material replaced with clean insulation.

As well as dealing with the mess, ensure that any damaged cables are repaired or replaced, as flying squirrels will often chew through any cables in the roof space. It is also wise to fumigate or disinfect the area so that any odors from the urine are nullified, and so that any bacteria or parasites from the squirrels are killed.

Conclusion

Flying squirrels can often be more problematic than the gray squirrel because they often populate a roof cavity quite quickly, so hiring a professional will often be easier than trying to remove them yourself.
